Yes - JC100A is copper and JC103A is SFP
Its cheaper because the throughput is a fraction of that compared to an A5800. I wouldn't put one on the core and expect to be able to handle multiple 10Gb/s links. Its not a core switch.
[QUOTE=
No need for PoE on the core - another, cheaper 48-port in the same cab can do that for us - in which case I take it the JC100A is the relevant, non-POE kit?[/QUOTE]
That's the right part number and you should be paying no more than £2500 roughly
No your probs right with the EX2200 but Im sure Juniper being Juniper would do a switch that could handle for a very good price, I believe the EX4200-24F (24 ports Fiber) will be able to handle the 10gig links without care.

Extreme are a company that up until recently focussed on carrier grade gear (ie. cabinet size switches...), but have recently been pushing more of the smaller stuff.
Their kit is *very* good in my experience (Lancaster Uni use(d) their gear on their core when I was there from what I remember).
Interesting... and a new company who recently got in touch are a reseller. Might be a good time to try them out. They did send me a Kit Kat with their introduction, after all (even if it was only two fingers, not four)
/waits for someone with a guttermind to twist that last bit
I remember extreme they used to make those purple switches :)
Yup... Careful though, you'll have @Little-Miss wanting some...
I had a demo with them a while ago they showed me one of there videos and had a chassis with 192 ports at 40 Gig each and they had 3 microseconds of latency and each port was getting absolutely hammered with as much traffic as you could throw at it, thats a monster.
........awesome!!
I recently took a gamble with some compatibles on a VOIP project. Added 10 new switches on the network and on three of the links I tried some compatibles (6 GBICs in total). These cost £30 each as opposed to HP being nearer £200. So far, no problems, all working well. Got them from GBICS.COM - they're based in Cirencester so quite close to us and I also got them to confirm compatability with our kit.

FFS if I had only known they were purple.
We have purple cabling. it would be a perfect match.
I probably still have time to cancel the A5800 order. Will call them tomorrow.
