+1 for resourcespace - excellent addition to our services!
I suppose it depends if you have a budget or not. If you do have a budget then it is worth looking for the right solution, some come with extra features.
Open source and free ones are great, they are free! But they do require some work and time dedicated to get them up and running and maintain.
We went with a purchased system and once its setup we have not had to dedicate much time at all for management, plus it come with a bunch of other features.
When I was in highschool, we used Clickview, there are a few others as well.
Have a look at php motion.
+1 for helix
Wanted this for a long time. Finally got it installed this week.
It's great being able to see the content on any device iPhones etc.
I can let staff upload any format of video and helix does the encoding. No input from me!!
@Jordy-Gaz - how much storage do you have on your ResourceSpace server? I'm wondering if it can use a cloud-like storage system (Ceph, OpenStack's Swift, etc) as a backend?

google groups has a dedicated resourcespace section which is really good!
they also use BITNAMI which is a simple installer ... (And easy to uninstall if you don't like it)
