stopping IE7 preference first run wizard
Hi
we are thinking of upgrading all pcs to IE7 but have noticed everyone will need to set up preferences as in search provider,
is there any way to stop this thing happening,
i have had a look at the IE7 administration kit - cant find how to stop it from there and the IE7 ADM for group policy, again nothing.
anyone have any pointers?
Re: stopping IE7 preference first run wizard
There is a setting in the IE7 ADM Group Policy to turn this off, can't remember exactly where it is but its in there.
Re: stopping IE7 preference first run wizard
In the GP Editor, open "User Configuration" then "Administrative Templates", then "Windows Components", then "Internet Explorer".

Re: stopping IE7 preference first run wizard
thanks
but i have added the IE7 ADM several times and yet those options do not appear anywhere for me GRRR
well that proves its not my eyesight at least been searching for ages
now to solve why the adm is not showing upgraded options, unless i need IE7 actually installed?
im going to get the inf file from a IE7 pc and see if that helps
Re: stopping IE7 preference first run wizard
the plot thickens
seems our DC wont accept the ADM, keeps reverting back to the old IE adm,
could this be because although we are a 2003 domain we do still have 2000 domain controllers?
Re: stopping IE7 preference first run wizard
Just install IE7 on a workstation where you use group policy management tool, and create a new GP. that way the ADM should update automagically and your policies will have the new IE7 settings (worked for me anyway).
We are running all 2k3 DC's but I wouldnt have thought your 2000 servers causing a problem.
Re: stopping IE7 preference first run wizard
tried that 2
installed it on my xp workstation with admin tools, shows up fine but wont update AD
i have also installed ie7 on the dc, in case its that but cant reboot it just yet
Re: stopping IE7 preference first run wizard
Reboot the server and IE7 ADM should be applied then.
Re: stopping IE7 preference first run wizard
seems you need ie7 on all DC's and since some of our DC's were 2000, have to upgrade :-(
