A machine I have recently imaged is proving rather odd, the chipset and all other drivers have been installed but still each boot im prompted that new hardware is detected, PCI serial port without drivers. The computer has no devices connected to its PCI slots and I have double checked I have the latest chipset for this machine....
Sounds like some form of Intel management interface (Intel AMT - Intel Active Management Technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Usually found in most enterprise gear these days by HP/Dell/Lenovo etc
If it is not that then I generally find that the PCI Serial Port is relating to the SATA drivers which afaik are generally the Intel Matrix Storage Drivers
When you download them it is normally a bunch of files ie inf, sys etc, extract them into a directory you can find
Go to device manager --> go to the properties of the PCI Serial Port item --> update driver --> select no to searching for a driver so it gives you the option to browse for the driver --> browse to said directory and select the INF file and click ok and ok again and it should copy over the relevant files
Yeap, Intel AMT. Grab the managment drivers and possibly the chipset ones and you should be good.

I have another computer, the same model which I have used the same image on and added the AMT drivers but im getting the same problem with a different device but the 'new hardware detected' screen shows the device as 'Unknown'. When looking in device manager no devices without drivers are shown.
Any useful Hardware ID numbers? Googling these usually gets results (look in Device Manager at the device Properties).
Device manager shows no devices marked up as unknown, missing drivers, errors or any signs of what this is. Every device in the list shows as correctly installed and functioning ok. At logon the computer prompts for the drivers for a new device, device is unknown. This hardware driver install window seems to be the only time the computer picks up the deviceQuote:
