I have several mini PCs without CDrom drives and im trying to install XP from USB.
I have tried several programs but all fail at various stages giving hal.dll errors.
Does anyone have a fool proof method for installing XP?
Thanks

I use a USB DVD drive normally, never had any problems with it and its great tool to have around.
You can use MDT to do a simple setup and one of the options is to make media. You then copy these files to a USB drive like you would the way you prepare a USB to install windows 7 from USB.
Network Installation of some description either using RIS / Sysprep or WDS ??
RIS should at least a basic xp image on the machine ?
Plenty of youtube videos on how to create a bootable XP USB pen drive and install XP onto things like netbooks etc so the process should be similar
Ive tried about 4 different programs, all fail with a hal.dll error, some before starting, others after the install.
Swapped to a different USB stick and am attempting it again.
Although not specifically for XP, you may find this guide useful...
MDT 2010 and deployment from a USB key
Edit. This one might be better...

hence why I mentioned WDS, RIS is easy if you have 2003.
Moving along swiftly ...... am sure synack or someone else had a thread about which HAL file(s) to use when you get this issue as the different HALs were due to the different cpu's single core vs multi core and there is one specific hal that supports both except for very old cpu's which most people don't use now.
Try WinSetupfromUSB:<www>.msfn.org/board/topic/120444-how-to-install-windows-from-usb-winsetupfromusb-with-gui. You will need to integrate any RAID/AHCI drivers beforehand with nLite.
Also, there's this guide: sites.google.com/site/rmprepusb/tutorials/install-xp-from-an-iso.
Sorry, can't post links yet :(
