Office 2010 and Printer Issue

Hi All

We are having a strange problem at the moment and has only started happening since we upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2010.
The problem seems to be a bit random at the moment with some users. Most of our printers are Brother 6050DN.

When printing emails from Outlook or reports from SIMS, for some users the printout is not readable and it's coming out in what looks like corrupt characters with plenty of random numbers, letters and squares!

I have updated the drivers and changed a setting on the printer from Print Fonts as Graphics to Download as TrueType. We have deleted and re-added the printers but still no luck.

Can anybody offer any assistance?

We are having problems with powerpoint 2010 not printing pictures to brother hl-2035.

have u tried SP1? Fixed a few issues we were having where word would say we had about 8 items in the print queue and would not print but actually the printer was ready.

Sounds like an old driver is being used - and with it only affecting some users, it could be corrupt roaming profiles have an old driver cached... except you've not updated your printers, just your applications, so not sure why it would do that. Try clearing their profiles down anyway (remembering to restore favourites afterwards) - more often than not, when it follows some users and not others, a problem is fixed with a profile reset.

From experience Brother drivers are crap, saying that Office 2010 uses a lot of features that simply were not around in 2003. As with the other post about the HL2030s check if there is newer printer firmware and drivers. Check the print spooler and make the machine spool it directly so as not to overtax the printers tiny brain and try the latest drivers of all varients. The PS ones are usually the most robust as they speek an ancient and verbose language that makes for huge print jobs but can be more reliable when dealing with suspect hardware.

Thanks for the replies. It seems the problem has died down a bit now that we have reset profiles and updated the drivers. We have also set the print to go directly to the printer. It's funny how things can go a bit weird for a while then die down afterwards!

I tried the delete profile and that did not work.

There is not a ps driver for the hl2035

I have had to resort to get staff to save to pdf and then print that.

Give brother a ring on 08444 999 444 they might be able to give you another new driver
