Sometimes loose the ability to log on from welcome screen
I have one machine (XP Pro, One administrator, and Three User settings.) That you sometimes loose the ability to log on from the welcome screen, (But you can always press "control, alt, delete" Twice), to get the network type of log on screen, then you can still log on. Its Not On The Domain !.
Does anyone Know of any fix's for this.
Michael.

Sounds like it's got a little confused about the settings it's supposed to have. Obvious culprits are:
1. Network/Setup problem stopping GPOs from applying.
2. Corrupt profiles.

Hi Geof
It's a stand a-loan machine in an office not connected to a server.
It only seems to do it at random, you can be logged on for some time and then if you want to change user or log off yourself then try to log on another user it will not let you from the welcome screen.

Sounds like mangled profiles then.

I'm still stuck with this problem, can someone give me some idea of what to look for and how to fix it..

It sounds like you're going to have to make a new user with admin rights, login and see if this sorts the problem when logged in as this new user. If it does the default user profile will probably be sound and you just need to force it to create new profiles for the existing users.
rename the other users profile folders (so it's forced to make new ones) then bring their settings back across from the old profile folders if you have to (documents etc.)
It's how I'd approach it anyway :-)
Sure someone will have a two click method of fixing it though!
