Java deployment - Transform file for MSI - Network Settings/Proxy Server

Hi guys/girls

Im abit stuck with creating a transform for Java Update 23/24. I want to add some network settings - a proxy server address and port as the way our network has been setup, java cant use the default browser settings as its setup just to Automatically detect settings.

When I manually set the proxy server details in the Java control panel, it works fine, but I want to set this as the MSI is deployed rather than doing the manual change on every machine.

Any help/pointers would be appreciated!

You should be able to use a the java deployment.properties file. You can configure the proxy settings in here and use a logon script to copy the file to the users area and put a copy on the netlogon/sysvol share.

You may also be able to do this on a per machine level.

To set Java's proxy server on a per-machine level, there are two files you need to deploy to each computer (deployment.config and deployment.properties). Both files should be copied to "%SystemRoot%\Sun\Java\Deployment". The deployment.config files contains the path to the deployment.properties file, while deployment.properties contains your proxy server configuration (among other things).

If you want to create an MST to deploy the config files there are 14 rows you need to add to various tables within the MSI. I have documented these in the attached spreadsheet/screenshot or you can download the MST I use myself to save a bit of time. The two config files mentioned above should be located alongside the Java MSI & MST but in a sub-folder which matches the destination path (Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment). All you need to do is edit the deployment.properties file to configure your proxy server.
