Re: MS office problem....
These were normal clipart pics not URL references to pics on the web?

Re: MS office problem....
Any update on this as we are having the same issues?
Re: MS office problem....
I would make sure they used EDIT > PASTE SPECIAL
and choose image.
We always tell the students this.
also sometimes there is a bug with cheaper intel extreme cards whereby the image is still there, its just not visible, and scrolling down the page, and back up, solves this problem.. *shrugs*
:)
Good luck!

Re: MS office problem....
It sounds to me it's more of an Office visual glitch. Copying and pasting images directly from the web doesn't always work well.
What I would recommend is for students to copy images from the web and paste them into a picture editing program: MS Paint, Paint Shop Pro (something along these lines). Now save the image in their My Documents folder in either JPG or GIF format.
Within Office go to Insert > Picture > From File, and insert the saved image this way. You should have a lot less problems, try it.

Not to mention so goddam lazy!
Re: MS office problem....
Instead of copying & pasting in to Paint or whatever, why not just right click on the image & choose 'save picture as' (IE) or 'save image as' (FF). Then just use the insert picture from file option. Less work for the little dears (lol)
Re: MS office problem....
True you could do that too kestrel1. I always hear teachers encouraging the kids not to just rip things from the web and do something with the text/images they've copied lol, of course asking the copyright owner for permission ;)

I thought that they always asked permission
Only one problem with them downloading images, they never clear anything out from their areas do they
Re: MS office problem....
I agree that in the latter years they really start to use up disk space, but then again if it got too much then I'd implement quotas.
I have enough problems getting some teachers to organise their documents in folders and not have hundreds and hundreds in the root of their My Documents! Crazy how some people work. Unfortunately a lot of teachers still lack the basic skills to have using a computer, so it's no wonder (as you say), why kids never "manage" their Documents. If the teachers don't know, in turn that information isn't relayed to their pupils.
Fortunately though as a younger generation of teachers come through university, they're much better equipped; probably word processing the majority of their work and have training on interactive whiteboards. It does make a big difference in the longterm.
Re: MS office problem....
Yes, totally agree aout the younger teachers. Not normally technophobes. We have just had 10 Smartboard 680i put in & I was pleased to walk along the corridor today & see four of them in use, I expect the other may have been couldn't see them though. The ones that I saw though had the younger teachers using them.
I thought about implementing quota's but could decide how much to allocate. I looked at the size of the drive on the file server & saw we still had about 200gb out of 400gb free & thought, why bother. Just means more work for me, as I am the only one looking after the network & I have enough work to do at the moment.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I had an idea that they would be better copy and pasting.
Does anyone know of a free clip art gallery that they couls use as well?
