WSUS or Patch I.T?
I currently run WSUS on an old desktop PC, but with a server being free I have the chance to move it to a better machine.
Also though, in a special offer with some other software, we have a full site licence for something called Patch I.T, so Im not sure which to use, just wondering if anyone has used the latter?
I assume it probably uses parts of WSUS to operate and probably makes it all more simple, and could possibly give more options than WSUS has, but the downside I assume is that there is a hell of a lot more support available for WSUS than there is this other software
Am I best off just using WSUS?

Re: WSUS or Patch I.T?
I doubt Patch IT uses wsus at all they probably maintain their own database of updates which their software pulls it from.

Re: WSUS or Patch I.T?
PatchIT get their info from Microsoft I understand but there is no WSUS involved.
I had a few problems with PatchIT over the last few weeks - not problems in it actually patching PCs though, that all works fine. The problems I had was PCs were still trying to install updates [ IE7 for example ] that I had told them to ignore.
I had a work around but really wanted it fixing properly which has now been done - sort of !!

Re: WSUS or Patch I.T?
The only thing with PatchIT is that as soon as you stop paying for Visionsofts anual agreement the patching stops and you have to use something else. I've not used it for that reason. I never know if we're going to renew or not.

Re: WSUS or Patch I.T?
Just as a side bar... I've found that if you put your WSUS on the same machine as you have ISA then you have to push WSUS onto a site other than the default (ie: port != 80).
Probably not ideal.. well ok, so I know it's not ideal but in case anyone else finds themselves in this boat, you will get a warning that the self-update service isn't working.. It is but for some reason MS never fixed the status check in the WSUS admin to check anywhere other than port 80.
Seems to work fine though...

Re: WSUS or Patch I.T?
Ah forget it then, I didnt realise they would stop when the subscription ran out
I cant imagine it being a problem to renew, but when theres a free solution theres no point
Im pretty impressed with one of VisionSoft's other programs though - Visual Audit X3. Didnt have high hopes for it but seems a very good tool for keeping track of software licences and getting hardware details of machines

Re: WSUS or Patch I.T?
Thats me out then I would have to invest in a new operating system, unless I could get an upgrade from an old NT server to w2000
