64bit arch

Hi, i would be grateful for advice. I have £600 for a lap top. I would like windows 7. Should i get the 64bit arch over the 32bit. I work for an data infrastructure company and my computer knowledge is not fab. I fancy a Toshiba L505 144 with an i5 processor and 4gb of ram. It has 64bit arch. If you know of a better option please let me know. I want the best multimedia laptop i can get with my hard earned cash and i want it to last me the next two or three years.

With 4GB ram i would go with 64 bit. To be honest i have never had a problem with 64 bit. It can run all my applications perfect.

likewise, if you are able to go ahead and do so and these days you normally can with many new laptops go with x64 bit as FN said i have also been running x64 and have not had any issues with running the applications that i run and at this moment in time i have common applications like (Visual Studio 2010, Adobe Suite C4, Office 2010 etc)

The only app that won't run is a 16 bit application for printing on stickers. I just run that in Windows XP Mode

The 64-bit version of Windows 7 is definitely the way to go. It's even a bit more secure compared to the 32-bit version.

The problem you are most likely to run into with 64-bit is if you have an older (or not-so-old but very cheap) printer that does not have drivers for 64-bit. Likewise for scanners or other peripherals that need a driver (things like digital cameras normally don't).

Basically, check with your manufacturer that 64-bit drivers exist to avoid disappointment. Personally, I would still go for 64-bit and just make it time for a new printer, but forewarned is forearmed.

+1 for 64bit Windows 7, I've been on it for a months now and have never had a problem, even with tricky programs and weird peripherals.

depends on teh printer mines probably about 7 years old (canon pixma ip 5100 i think) and the drivers in windows work quite happily but then similar or newer hps in schools i have problems with mainly laserjet 3500 series and various and sundry office jets. If its been out of production by epson for more than 6 months dont expect epson to support it though

+1 for 64Bit been using 64bit since Vista's original release and I havent had any problems at all.
