Printer problem

We are using Pcounter printing software. We had slow printing problems 3, 4 months ago. We have reset everything. Changed printer driver, settings etc. etc. but the problem was with one of our switch which was resolved by switching it on/off.

Now As we have changed the drivers during the slow printing time two of our printers are giving us random problems. When students try to print it come up with error message " printer set-up error " by adding the printer again works fine. These network printers are scripted locally to each pc. Whenever someone log on to these PCs they get the printer.

Extremely annoying to add it again & again.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

In the 2003 Server Resource Kit there's a utility called Cleanspl.exe (Spooler Cleaner). I'd recommend one evening to run this on your print server which will delete all printers and restore the spooler to default. No reboot is required.

Then install and re-create printer sharenames and permissions as appropriate. Use the same sharenames as before and you shouldn't need to modify your scripts. Alternatively you may want to consider Windows Server Print Management.

Do you have the latest version of P-Coutner, 2.53 released a few weeks back?

No. We have previous version

Will it make any difference If we update it to newer version.
