Iím having a problem with one userís offline files. Every now and then it will not sync and has the error message Unable to merge offline changes on \\server_name\share_name. The parameter is incorrect. So I re-initialize the cache by going to Folder Options, Offline Files Tab, press CTRL+SHIFT and then click delete files. Restart PC files sync again all working fine.
Month or so later same thing happens.
Has anyone else had this issue and found a permanent fix for it. Only one person is having this problem all other laptops in school are syncing fine.
Try deleteing the CSC folder and let it re-create.
We have a member of the Technology faculty that every so often brings his laptop up with the same error you're seeing.
While it was intriguing the first two times, it soon became annoying so we took a quick look into his network area. It would seem he likes to have as few directories as possible in his area so every month makes one called (for example ) "09 - 10 oct v2" and copies everything from the previous folder into it (thus duplicating all his work).
Digging through some of the directories, it turns out he was hitting the joyous Windows issue of "I've let you somehow create a file within a path longer than 255 characters but I'm going to make you jump through hoops to actually access the file(s)/folder(s)"
We've tried explaining to him that although being organised is good, there is a such a thing as being too organised but it doesn't seem to sink in. Even when we kept an eye on a few problem directories for a month or two and everything worked he couldn't understand why the syncing problem reappeared as soon as he started dumping stuff in there again.
I'd give the user's area a quick once over and see if there are any deeply nested directories.
Thankyou for the replies. I will look into the member of staff home drive and see what I can find.
