Remote support software
I have a friend overseas who's PC needs looking at but I can't connect to them as they can't get a direct internet connection for me to use anything like VNC. I know that you can use products where the user browses to a website and installes an agent which then lets you connect as they initiated the connection. Smoothwall use one when they do remote support but I can't remember what it's called.
Does anyone know of a free product a bit like that?
This gives them an icon to click that gives gives a VNC connection to your machine outbound so that it traverses firewalls.

there is also teamview - web based:
or get them to put logmein on their pc or windows live mesh
LogMeIn will do the trick - https://secure.logmein.com/
Teamviewer is the tool and that is what Smoothwall use as well (they pay for it and have a posh customised version as well ;))
+1 for Teamviewer, it's awesome
Teamview that's what I was trying to think of.
Cheers all, I might take a look at the other options as well.
Yup TeamViewer ticked all the boxes for me when i wanted to do this :)
team viewer and go to assit ;)
big thumbs up for teamviewer - saved me a lot of miles over the past while!
For my mates all I do is use windows messenger, it has remote support stuff built in.
He just sends you the request on msn and it will try to connect (can take up to 2 mins) but it mostly works.
EDIT: oops removed after a good point by @RabbieBurns :getmecoat:
quoting them just preserves their spam long after it has been reported and deleted ;p

EDIT: Doh! This post is 4 years old...Hope he wasn't waiting.
Was just looking in to this as RDP is currently not an option at all my schools- and this thread rises from its grave.
Now that it's shuffling around: is Teamviewer definitely free for EDU use? Has anyone used Chrome Remote Desktop and can compare?
