Stop enable macro in WORD by using a group policy object and cer file...
Iíve just been asked to install some software called FX MathsPack
from Efofex Software
The software integrates in to WORD 2003.
When the end-user opens WORD they have to click Enable Macros three times.
We have macro security set to medium.
(Servers run Windows 2003 all clients are XP pro)
They user could click the Always trust macros from this publisher but each student would have to do this for every different pc they sit at so I was hoping for a global fix.
Iíve tried to find out how to create a GPO that would add the software supplier to the list of trusted publishers.
This is what I have doneÖ
Logged in as an administrator Iíve ticked the Always trust macros from this publisher button and then gone in to Macro Security in WORD. From the Trusted Publishers tab I chose View and then the Details tab and the Copy to File option. This invokes the Certificate Export Wizard, from here Iíve created a mathspack.cer file.
In Group Policy Management I have edited a GPO linked to our computers branch of our active directory structure.
In Computer configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Public Key Policies -> Trusted Root Certification Authorities I have imported the mathspack.cer file.
Unfortunately the column Expiration Date for this certificate shows an expired date. ie 05/02/2008.
I have emailed the supplier of the software to ask for an up to date certificate.
BUT, as Iíve not done this before and whilst I wait for the new certificate I wanted to check what I had done was correct and will stop the clients asking the users to click enable macros for this software.
