CMIS & Domains
I have a site which has separate curriculum and admin networks. The admin network literally consists of only three workstations, (so it makes sense to get rid of this domain).
The curriculum server would remain as the DC and the admin server as just a member server. Hope all this makes sense so far!
When joining the admin server to the existing curriculum domain, is there anything I need to change or be aware of when it comes to CMIS? The admin server name would remain the same, but the IP will change and of course the domain name will change.
I'd appreciate any feedback - especially from anyone who has actually done this in practice.
I have another site which I inherited which is configured like this, so I know it's possible :)
are you putting the admin workstations on the curriculum domain?
Yes that's the plan, but of course they'll behave differently as the users and computers will be in a seperate OU.
Yer i see the logic in that. If it has the same name it should be fine. Unless it looks for the full server name eg: CMIS.schooldomain.local
Yeah I did think it should be fine, but better to be safe than sorry. I'll be doing the work during half term so still have a few weeks yet to plan. I have a lot to do, but sure love challenges :)
If E-portal is on the same server and you keep the same server name and drive mapping for the drive you run CMIS from the same, then you shouldn't have any problems as the IP number and Domain shouldn't matter. If E-portal is on a different server, or you change the server name then you may have to re-establish the link to the CMIS SQL database, and create a new connection file for CMIS which is pretty straight forward. I'm sure Serco support will help you, their support has improved a lot recently, they seem more able to deal with slightly more technical questions like this than they used to be.
Everything is all on the same server, which should simplify the whole migration procedure.
