Does anyone know a way of automatically deleting emails that are a certain age (centrally) say in the users Deleted Items folder or Junk Mail folder.
We have setup polices where when a user closes outlook the deleted items empties automatically. Could find out how to do what you want to do.
Users use OWA tho...
I think you can set policies on the folders so they will do this when items are x amount of days old i think. We used to do this with student's deleted items buit have moved to exchange 2007 so i need to look into this again.
You can do this by installing the Mailbox manager which will allow you to set the policy. For exchange 2007 its Managed Records Management
Ash.
Go to System manager/Recipients/Recipient Policies.
Create New Recipient Policy
Select Mailbox Manager Settings
Give it a name and filter settings (if appropriate).
Switch to the settings tab
Experiment with the settings you want (on report only!) When happy change to Delete immediately.
You will also need to make sure that mailbox management is running and that it sens a report the the administrator so you know it is working. This is found by RMC on the server and selecting mailbox management.
Hope this all makes sense - in a bit of a rush at the moment - we get slung out at 4!
Jonathan
Hi Jonathan, thanks for this, I've been looking for something like this for a while! I've setup the Policy, however, I'm not certain about the last part:
I'm not sure where to check if it's running and would also like to check where it sends the report to.Quote:

Thanks!!
@ Archers, that rings a bell, been a while since I did it though!
Just a reminder, don't forget to tell your users, and remind them (even though Exchange does this whenever the cleanup runs for you (you can custimse the message)) A number of our users were using the sent items as a storage folder, and they don't understand that deleted items is just that!!
Perfect, thanks so much!! :)
