Question about Shadow Copies.....?
I have just set up shadow copies on our Server. I have a D: drive that has the student home directories on. I have installed a 300gb hard drive on a ide on the same sever. This drive is labeled F:.
I have enabled shadow copies on the D: drive and told it to store the shadow copies on F:.
After a couple of hours it said that 900m was being currently used for the shadow copies. But if i manual go to F: i cannot see anything on the drive.
Is this correct. i know this is probably a very basic question to most of you but I thought i would see some sort of file/files on the F: drive where the shadow copies are being directed to .
Have i set it up wrong?
Should i see some file/files or not?
Please advise me please.
Re: Question about Shadow Copies.....?
I think you'll find that this is correct, it's not backing up the files in the usual manner, but creating a semi-hidden copy

Yes, I'd assume that you have created 3 shadows ? Each copy has 300Mb set aside for it even if nothing has been stored.
When you do get shadow copies created they are not visible, useable files (if you lose the source disc the shadow volume is useless), they are stored in the shadow volume's "System Volume Information" directory.
In fact, when I played with shadow copies on a Virtual PC system, it looked as if shadows were only moved to the shadow volume when they needed to be, I'm sure that things linger on the source.
