Task management?
Not sure where to post this, so here seemed the best place. As our ICT equipment is expanding, our current method of staff reporting tasks to us is no longer good enough. We are looking for something fairly inexpensive, easy for staff to have an icon on their desktop and log their own faults, and something they can check to see the updated progress by us in ICT. Saying that, if its easy to use even a piece of software on the web. We would like to be able to adapt the software for our own needs, as our Site staff department would also like to use it. Currently, what do you all use to manage your work?
Regards,
Claire

Here staff phone or e-mail us with problems which we then add to an Outlook Task list. We log how long the jobs takes, make notes if required for future reference and can check it off when it's done. When we check off a task, we e-mail the member of staff and let them know it's done!
It's not a brilliant system but a helluva lot better than keeping all jobs in my head! It works very well for us.

Thank you for your replies. Have searched on here, and have got either high priced management software, or the fact that people are using outlook, which is what we would like to get away from. The only other sort is that huge industries are using, which is more of a project management, which would not work in our environment. Any ideas, or if you could let me know what you are using. We are in a School, so will need to be fairly inexpensive, and very easy for staff to log faults, and obviously slightly more indepth for our use.

We use Ilient helpdesk (the free version), staff can e-mail in requests or you can do it via a web interface. If you want more than two administrators or AD integration you have to pay.
Works well for us
