i've tried to do some research into this but i'm dammed if i can find anything useful!. does anyone know of any cheap/free solutions that would mean i could stop typing in my password, even if only on one machine.

Not for logging on, but I've seen Bluetooth devices which lock the computer when they go out of range, so you'd only need log in once in the morning - after that your computer will unlock itself as you sit down to it.

In addition to Nicks comment you can get software that locks your machine via a bluetooth phone (if you have one) for about £6
