Office configuration
Hi Folks,
I'm currently working on a new build for our PCs and just being testing it. I have office 2003 installed and configured with modified fonts, toolbars etc. I've then copied the ntuser.dat to default user so everyone picks up the changes. For some reason the toolbars and some button changes are not showing up. People with profiles are fine but students aren't. Are these details stored in another loaction?
Can anyone help?
Michael.

Re: Office configuration
Have you set who can use the copied ntuser.dat? How did you copy it? Doing a file copy probably won't work. you'll need to go into user profile and click on the "copy to" box and enter the location then, click on the "permit to use" and choose "everyone". I think I'd try copying it to a new location using that dialog box, then manually copying the new profile over the default profile. Give that a try and let me know how it goes...

Re: Office configuration
Rename the default user profile, then export the good profile into the documents and settings folder, and rename it to default user (or just export it as 'default user').

Re: Office configuration
Did you fill out "Everyone" in the "permit to use" box? Thats quite important, otherwise its loaded into the registry, but not where anyone other than the creator can see it.

Re: Office configuration
check out the mandatory profile HowTo over on the Wiki... here
edugeek wiki » start » how-to » profiles » how_to_set_up_profiles » how_to_set_up_mandatory_profiles
- I think that'll help a lot.

Re: Office configuration
I did a copy & paste from one profile to the other. Where is the "permit to use" option. I'm currently running XP Prof.
Thanks
Michael.

Re: Office configuration
NO! Always copy profiles as follows;
On the computer where the profile was created,
- Right click My Computer, properties
- Select Advanced Tab
- Click User Profile Settings
- Select profile to copy
- Click Copy To
- Enter (or browse to) target folder (e.g. \\server\profiles\userx)
- Change 'Permitted to use' as appropriate;
for Default User profiles, select Everyone (location does not matter)
for Mandatory profiles, select Everyone (location does not matter)
for specific user, select the user (correct location is crucial)
- Click OK to copy the profile
