Backup Exec 2012 is terrible IMHO they have completely ruined it!
Its much better than Microsoft DPM that's for sure.
And your right the new 2012 version of backupexec is awful. The 2010 version is excellent though, been using it for years and it is very reliable.
I am looking into something new for Hyper-V though. Possibly Veeam as recommended in another thread on this forum.
I have used previous version of Exec which work fine and are good. But in Virtual only Environments Veeam is brilliant. In terms of both replication and backup.
Let me put it this way:
Backup Exec is, and always has been, a powerfull but also complicated product. I've used it since version 9 (now on 2012)
and i'm still overwhelmed at times.
That said, we had WAY more bugs/problems when it was still Veritas. Not a month went by where we didnt hav to fix mysterious bugs. Right now its pretty stable and does its job. In fact, a year ago after a disaster, we've succesfully done a complete restore of all our
domain controllers, exchange servers & some member servers within 2 days...
Was going to upgrade to 2012 this week...maybe I'll leave it!
Does anyone know where to purchase Veeam from?
I'd like to test it out as an alternative to backup hyper-v computers.
I'm using 2010 here and it's fine... I've been using B-Exec for years in fact and have never had any major issues at all.
I think it's pretty straight-forward and does what it says on the tin - it's as complicated as you want it to be really.
I also use Veeam to complement it though - and that is truly excellent.
@zag - download a trial of Veeam from their website... then just contact your usual IT resellers for a quote.
2010 Version of backup exec is fine - its just the updated gui in the new version which is horrible!
With Veeam if you go onto there website you can locate a reseller.
I went with shadowprotect for my hyperv backup solution, worked out pretty cheap. might be worth a look?

Having just found out about Veeam I can understand why everyone is raving about it.
Its so much better than backupexec for hyper-v imaging. Just check out this video it really is quite simple.
