    Request for file

    Hi All
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum. I've been using RIS for a while quite happily but having just had some new IBMs delivered i'm having issues.

Basically (i think) it all boils down to the Intel Pro 1000 NICs installed - having read various articles on M$ / Intel / IBM there seems to be an issue between the card and the M$ parser when dealing with RIS requests

I'm looking for a recently released dll (BINLSVC.dll) which sounds like it will alleviate the problem. However M$ have not made it freely available and may well charge me the for priviledge of contacting them. I'm pretty sure they wouldnt charge me, but they initially request credit card details, of which i dont possess any!!

As i dont possess a credit card i wondered if anyone has gotten hold of the file listed below

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;823658

Date Time Version Size File name
    -------------------------------------------------------
    12-Dec-2003 01:52 5.2.3790.111 112,128 Binlsvc.dll

    Re: Request for file

    Try this

Ive had many a fun day with intel nics not playing ball, it has always been an inf replacement that has fixed it (ive had it with several pro/100s and a pro/1000)

BTW: I know it states for 2K3 you should apply the hotfix, but i never have as this method works and i dont have to phone M$ every time i set up a RIS server...

    Regarding the hotfix:

You should get the hotfix no problem as you want it because of a problem with their OS, NOT a problem of how to do something.

Remember to point this out when ringing if they give you stick.

    Cheers

You have to jump through a lot of hoops with MS Tech Support though. Firstly unless you have a support contract with them directly they will insist on having your credit card details upfront before they even talk to you. Secondly its up to the support agent to determine if the problem is their fault and is fixed by a hotfix. If it is then yes you'll get your $50 back. Unfortunatly not all Support Agents are created equal.

    Re: Request for file

Yes, I have had many a hour trying out RIS with these NIC's and like E1uSiV3, I have always used new .inf files and always worked for me. (Bromcom Drivers are the same as well, i normally have to edit the .inf file.)

    @Geoff

Is there any real advantage to copying this new BINSLVC file to my server. I have SP! installed any how.

Not if the files the same. Right click it and go to properties and look at the version tab.

    Re: Request for file

Interestingly enough, i phoned M$ a while back about a hotfix requireing a phonecall and they were mroe than happy to provide it with no CC details at all... maybe it was cus i made them aware i was only after a download from the beginning or something, they did mention the call 'could be chargeable' but said they would invoice the school if it was(!) they never did though...

    Re: Request for file

Strangely I had installed SP1 a while back, but it hadnt overwritten the previous BINLSVC.dll file - thanks for the file Geoff (this is the same version that gets installed with SP1)

Have tested it on a "blank" XP SP2 image and it seems ok at the mo

Unless they've started cracking down on it, i've never had a problem in getting them in the past, but I always explain the problem straight after saying who i am. They never insisted anything lol

Reading the last bit of your quote, then maybe they have changed it then

    Typical lol
