I get the distinct feeling at my t'other school where it is deployed the server isn't set up correctly.

Attempt to read PCs from a DB - errors, attempt to read from AD - errors (but does bring up a list).

    Deployment works, uninstall doesn't.

We went back to V4 during the break, everything seemsed to be working but yesterday pceservice.exe took our server CPU to 100% for no apparent reason. Both this service and the SQL have been restarted and even a server reboot but this had no effect.

To get around it for now we added another CPU which gives us a working server but the pceservice.exe still uses 50% of the CPU resources.

Clients so far don't seem to be having problems, most are Win 7 and the odd XP. Office 2010 seems to be behaving at the moment.
Just to save any confusion to readers of this thread - the CPU issue was found not related to the problems listed above. That was something else on my server install which has been fixed by forensics software.

5.1.4.3 - deployed to one IT room - Publisher/Outlook all crashed on boot
PCE now being removed from the network with the PCEREMOVE script

We use ePortal and Sophos - Sophos 10.5 on the eportal server caused daily crashes. Are you all suggesting that Sophos 10.5 isnt playing nicely with eportal on the end users machines when they access ePortal through the browser?

Is PCE also not playing nice with ePortal?
After Sophos`s recent blunder now this, what a mess..

We have had the same problem as mentioned before where PCE was crashing MS Publisher, but we have also found that on windows 7 PCE crashes the event viewer when you try to examin the logs. I have had to put in an exception for eventvwr.exe and MMC before we could get to see the logs.

If that was not just a nightmare we have found to day that PCE is blocking the print spooler on a number of our machines, stopping users having printers. I have put exceptions in for spooler.exe and in the process of monitoring its progress.

    I've discovered a new conflict -

    Windows 7 SP1 + IE9 + Adobe Reader 11, with PC 5144 installed randomly crashes Internet Explorer 9. I've reported this to Link2ICT 07/11/12.

By returning to Adobe Reader 9.5.2 or Adobe Reader 10.1.4 cures the problem.

  9. Thanks to Michael from:

Today I've tested PCE 5146 Beta which fixes the problem between Adobe Reader 11 and IE, multiple icons appearing in the taskbar and also other unrelated issues.

The update should be released in the near future, so watch this space!

I'm having to resort to imaging to get a load of our clients to 5145. Some are still on 41xx and all of them refuse to uninstall using their force tool. I don't know how much we pay for Policy Central but it isn't worth it. Maybe 5146 will make all the difference.

Make sure you have the latest removal tool. A new one is published every month. If you need a link, drop me a PM.

I'm still using 4.1 on the clients but upgraded the console to 5x last week.

5x seems really slow to load as well as being twice as difficult to look things up quickly. I can't say I'm impressed with PCE at the moment.

    Sorry to hijack this thread.

One of the schools I support has recently upgraded to the latest client, and we have had a lot of reports of staff and students getting an RunDLL error on startup.

I haven't had chance to check it out throughly but if I log in as me (an admin) the AUP for PCE appears fine, but when a student for example it brings up the runDLL error and then the AUP screens appears without any text in the AUP. So the error message is related to PCE and maybe some sort of rights issue related to running the AUP on startup.

    Anyone else ran into this?
