Default Exchange Server 2007 - Windows Server 2003 R2 32Bit

I've been told that Exchange Server 2007 requires a 64bit version of Windows and that it doesn't work with R2. Is there any truth to this or complete pants?

As spelt out fairly clearly on the Microsoft website, Exchange 2007 requires Windows 2003 x64 standard or enterprise, and can run on both the R2 and "normal" versions of Windows.

This confused me as well, but apparently according to that article you can install it on normal 32bit 2003 R2.

I have a server waiting for me to work on so I will let you know

I can't see where it says that in the article at all. If you're referring to this Exchange Server 2007 management tools can also be installed on a 32-bit computer then is refers to the management tools, e.g. the server administrator's tools for controlling the server, not exchange server itself.

There was a 32 bit version of Exchange 2007 floating around in the beta but almost from day one Microsoft were very very clear that this was for testing purposes only and not for "live" deployments.

Exchange 2007 needs a x64 bit version of windows so thats 2003 x6x or 2003 R2 x64.

you can't install it on a 32bit version of windows.

interesting Exchange 2003 will only install on x86 hardware therefore to upgrade from 2003 -> 2007 you need to follow the swing method, having both in operation at the same time and moving mailboxes and roles over from one server to the other... i did this once fun!!!!
