Not sure if this should be in the network forum... oh well.
I want to deploy Mozilla Thunderbird onto our network, we currently use a web-based interface for our Internal Mail, and the teachers dont use it because its not what theyre used to (such as Outlook Express) etc.
I did try a long while back to set Outlook Express up so that every time they ran Outlook Express, it just asked for a username and password, but instead it asks for username and password, email address, mailserver adresses, their name, POP/IMAP settings, etc.
Does Thunderbird contain this type of functionality?
Or, is there some sort of script I could write that would ask them for their username and password, then set up the rest of the settings in the registry/similar, and run Thunderbird/Outlook, so that all they see is a username and password box, then their mail.
Eager to hear back from anyone, my management is really wanting a solution to the lack of useage of internal mail.
Thanks!!
Why not just use the custom maintenance wizard as part of the ORK tools to modify the profile and roll out the e-mail settings in Outlook? You can just use the %username% parameter to make life easier. Then all they'll have to do is enter a password.
ORK Tools?
Sorry!! ORK=Office Resource Kit
Downloadable free from microsoft site. It contains a selection of tools that allow you to build custom installations of Office, customs profiles, policies etc etc.
What version of Office are you using? I'll post a link up if you let me know.
