    Java - Proxy & Authentication

This may have been discussed, but we're having issues with it at the moment. Let me go and paint the scene.

User going on a website which has loads a Java applet. Java then asks for credentials to get through our proxy server. If the user provides their credentials, it works...but we'd like to avoid this from happening. I know you can define proxy setting within Java, but not credential information. Also, this appears to be on a workstation-by-workstation basis, which would be a nightmare.

Our Java is version is 6.31 or earlier depending on the machine. (jre-6u31)

Is there a way to create a sort of pass-through using Windows credentials, which could be managed centrally? I'd seen the proxy configuration script location, but don't know where to go with it.

Did you upgrade from Java 1.6.x to 1.7.x? We've just found this happening since upgrading last week. I've rolled back the upgrade as a temporary fix until I find a solution.

Unfortunately no, we're still on version 6. (Have edited my post to contain that)

I've encountered this problem recently too. We use TMG for Proxy. Java is trying to authenticate anonymously. To get around it I have created a rule on TMG to allow unauthenticated access to HTTP and HTTPS for a list of specified websites.
