Hi
I have this issue when a teacher is trying to play a DVD disc to a class through their laptop. Basically the DVD video displays on the laptop but not on the IWB screen. I have tried several players (Windows Media, AVS DVD Player etc) and they all do the same thing. I have even downloaded DivX codec but it still wont work. Anyone else have this problem?. We have Promethean boards and Interwrite boards and it happens on both. Should I be using special software?
:?

I have had this before and it is do with a display setting.
Have you tried changing the output on the laptop so it is just the IWB and not the laptop?
Also try right clicking the desktop and look throught the display settings and see if anything obvious is unticked.

Are you using video overlay? Try disabling it.

If none of the above work, you might want to try updating the video drivers.

Re: DVD's not displaying on interactive whiteboards (IWBs)
Video overlays tend to be dependent on the hardware. For example, ATI cards had a "theater" option which gave the option of where to stick overlays.
If you could tell us the video hardware, see what we can do.

Re: DVD's not displaying on interactive whiteboards (IWBs)
yes this happens on laptops. Just switch the display completely to the projector and this sorts out the issue. Only problem is that then the display doesn't show on the l;aptop. Do this by using the FN (function) key and usually on the numbers a little picture of a computer screen. Yoyu may have to do this a few times.

We had this problem, we could never pinpoint it to whether it was a laptop problem or a projector problem.
In the end we just told the teachers to FN just to the projector screen.

Re: DVD's not displaying on interactive whiteboards (IWBs)
does the laptop work on the projector if there is no movie app running, so when they are doing there normal lessons.
If that is the case, we had this issues, i would just get it on the projector when only the desktop is running and then fire up the dvd software and that seemed to work

I think there's issues with video playback in XP with certain video cards on a display when NOT the primary monitor (display 1 in control panel). If you change the display settings to make the Whiteboard/Projector the primary screen this will solve the problem (though obviously it may stop the video playing on the laptop screen!)
If there's a clone option on the laptop (usually FN+F5) rather than extend the monitor onto this screen/dualview this might also fix the problem.

DVDs due to copy protection won't display when you have laptop screen and external output on at once, set it to external output only and your fine.

Beast is right, had this many times before.
Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot
Knock the acceleration back a notch ot 2 and it should work.
