Pinnacle Studio 9 Install Problems
Hi All,
Great site - Have lurked for a while but thought it was time i made a post !...
Wonder if anyone has had a similar problem or has any suggestions:-
Looking to incorporate Pinnacle 9 into our computing base image. Pinnacle 10 is not an option due to the spec of PC's.
Heres the problem:-
Install as normal under Administrator profile. runs fine under Administrator.
Go through normal process of copying profile to default user , permit everyone etc.
The problem lies that the application will not launch with any profile other than administrator. Any other profile it will display the splash screen and then generate a "error has occured..." window.
I have tried the following:-
- Gave a test profile full rights to c: drive
- Created a "Pinnacle" account and made it part of the administrators group.
- Logged on as Administrator and tried to Run as with Pinnacle account.
- Checked paths of pinnacle registry entries.
The pinnacle knowledgebase hasn't helped at all so any ideas would be helpful !

Pinnacle 10 is not an option due to the spec of PC's.
You aren't missing much
Takes about 30-45 mins to install on one machine.
I''ve given Everyone & Authenticated Users !Full Control" NTFS permissions on the Pinnacle folder [replicated down of course] as a precaution before i even ran the program.
I know its a different version by try it this way and see if that helps.
I take it you have downloaded whatever the latest patch for version 9 is and installed it right? If not, try that.
Failing that.... i cant think of anything else that it could be - unless it is trying to access some other directory i.e. something in C:\Program Files\Common Files that needs permissions setting.
After getting v10 to work with the digital cam corder [didnt work until i patched it :S], i then had the fun of creating a Media group [for media studies] and assigning a special GPO to allow them to access the C drive on certain machines, as its the only way [at the moment] they can save these huge DV files when capturing.
You may want to bear that in mind once you get it going.

Re: Pinnacle Studio 9 Install Problems
Thanks for the suggestions.
I tried giving the pinnacle account full rights over the entire c: drive but still no success.
The only thing i haven't done is download the patch as it doesn't recognise the serial number when I try to register (despite the fact it's the exact one on the cover..)
So need to go and dig out invoice/proof of purchase and send proof....

The patch will likely cure it.
Probably a "oh...we didnt think anyone without admin rights would want to use the product" type thing that soooo many manufacturers seems to blissfully forget, dispite how long 2K / XP / etc, has been out for lol

Have you tried ringing Pinnacle to ask them?
No doubt they wont be able to help you for all manner of reasons, but i'll be suitably impressed if they do
