hello all
is there a way, preferably using group policy to log a user off after a period of inactivity. i know that there is a screen saver that can do something along these lines but i would rather not use it. i would also like to be able to set it from the server and not have to go to each client to enable it.
any ideas please post
thanks for the help

Do you mean that it logs them out when they've been logged in an hour? Or do you mean that it will log them out at a certain time? Say 3pm?

Re: Auto Logout in 2003 Domain?
I'm using that screensaver over the summer holidays, sick of staff leaving pcs logged in. They know the risks but simply don't give a damn.

You need to get the file on the local machine (startup script is probably the easy way). Then use Group Policy to specify the screen saver.

Why not use task scheduler?
There's an option under Task Properties -> settings to specify that the job only runs if the computer has been idle for xx mins. Wait for a 15 min or so idle period then the scheduled job will kick in which runs psshutdown (or your preferred shutdown method). This can display a message and a further timed countdown before shutdown which the user can cancel if they're still at the workstation.
