We are having strange issues with getting staff laptops to recognise Promethean boards. We know we have to go through the manual install and choose the option ' i will choose which driver to install' and all works well. But if they plug the board in to a different USB port it does not recognise it again and it seems you have to go through the same routine for every USB port on the laptop.
I thought that once the driver had been installed it would work on any of the ports?
Ideas and experiences please.
Same problem here i'm affraid. The only thing we do is incorporate it into our ghost images for the laptops.
Recent Microsoft security patch broke it. Promethean need to learn how to write drivers properly. Bitch at Promethean. I am.
Nope, this is correct. Each time you plug a device into a different USB port, it will have to be installed for that port. Try it with a pen drive. A right royal pain.
I have just had the same issue with some new usb cameras. Loads of fun when the PC has 4 front USB. lol
I've found that in the past with a few printers too - so is it all buggy drivers or just the way usb works in windows??
Buggy drivers.

Indeed - USB drivers are only supposed to be needed once and certain drivers (e.g. printers) should not require full admin rights. As we all know - this is certainly not the case (especially those crappy little £20 printers!!!)Originally Posted by Geoff

Yep those be them.
lol
Pen drives [using inbuilt XP drivers] are odd - needing installation in each port is crazy hehe lol]
Had to install one for the ICT co-ord yesterday *giggles*

Chaps,
There are 2 ways of connecting Promethian Whiteboards to PCs/Laptops. 1 uses a USB/Serial (Keyspan) Adaptor and the other is a direct connection. The Keyspan is usually OK once the driver is loaded although we do have issues from time to time when the driver fails to load even on a PC onl used to drive the WB.
Recently our Junior School had some new WB installed using the direct USB connection. We found that the board was not being recognised. There is an A4 leaflet provided with the installation and in there there is a process to go through to get the board to work. It involves changing the "Human Interface" settings within device manager. Sorry to be vague but the leaflet is in the other school - I will have a look and update the post - but if you've got the bumpf you should be able to find it,.
Have fun.......
Yep you can get the USB Guide from the promethean site.

You'll want the WinXP section I expect.
