Transferring DHCP roles (2000)
I have to take a DC offline an rebuild the old girl but, at the moment aswell as being a DC it also provides dhcp.
I already have a machine up an running to replace which has been promoted so active directory looks happy
can i just add the dhcp role to the new server set the scope then turn dhcp off the old server?

Don't forget to move the FSMO roles and the Global Catolouge if your taking the one and only DC offline for a while.
See if thisis of any help.

Don't just set up a new scope and rely on this, you will get problems with duplicate ip address. 8O
Have a read of this first 8)

Whatever the server version. You still should backup the DHCP database on the old server and restore it to the new server. This is the only way to be certain you will not have problems with duplicate IP addressing.

If you wanted to you could make one group smaller reduce time for renew produce a new group when new scope is running shut down old scope and noone will even know what happened and if done right there wont even be an interuption. I know thats how i did it but you must make sure you have enough room in both scopes for all the machines. when i bought my old server offline I bought it back again and now i have 2 scopes just incase one server falles down.
