I have an old Cachepilot box (see pic) which is currently running Server 2003 on a single disk. We are using this as a sort of media drive (all videos, photos etc go on it). Currently it has a 1TB drive in it.
I have purchased 2 x 2TB drives that I would like to use instead in a mirror configuration.
Is it possible to put one of the new drives in the Cachepilot and create a mirror (using SVR 2003 RAID). This will hopefully copy all data to new drive as a mirror of the original.
Can I then take out the original drive and put in the other new drive? Will the 2TB drive I originally added then build this drive into the mirror?
I hope that makes sense!
Or am i better off copying all Media files off and then rebuilding the server using the new 2TB drives and then copying the media back?
might be easier to use cloning software like ghost/fog/ping and just clone from the 1tb drive to the new array as i suspect adding the 2tb drive to a miror will wipe it iirc most controllers do
AFAIK you can only create a mirror with a drive of equal size so using a 2TB to mirror a 1TB wouldn't work. I'm not 100% sure though as I've only ever tried mirroring with identical drives.
