    AD Books?

Has anyone got any recommendations for Active Directory books or resources? Mostly planning rather than operational but not fussed if it has that as well.

Looking to have a new network from next summer so thinking about how to put AD to best use & I know how to use it for technical tasks but not to build from scratch.

If you use it regularly for managing your existing network, you probably don't need any books. A lot of the information you can gain through trial and error yourself.

I always recommend people to install/setup a test server. If you go wrong, that's actually a good thing as you'll know not to do it again. I know this sounds weird, but it's true if you think about it.

You can download the free 180 day trial version of 2008 R2 (if you do a search online). If you get stuck at any point, the nice people on this forum will point you in the right direction

I'm currently reading the Microsoft Press 70-640 Active Directory exam training guide.
Contrary to Michael's advice above I would recommend reading this, it fills in so many of the blanks, and has given me countless ideas for different ways to implement things. Of course, a demo setup is equally vital, but having supported AD for 10 years I'm amazed at how much more info is in the books.

Thanks both. We will hopefully be running a test network from next month up till the roll over in September. Hands on AD we are fine with as we have been picking that up on the way it is purely planning a new forest and implementing it that I am worried about.
I'll take a look at that book ta.
