    Setting up TS

Hi I am looking to setup a vpn. This is going to go via the LA. They have advised me to setup a ts server and they can redirect to that once into he LA via rsa session.

Please can somebody advise how to setup a ts server and should it be on its own box or dc etc etc

    Thanks

I don't know how much you have looked into this but what are you trying to accomplish in the first place?

A VPN will allow remote access to the school (file shares/internal websites/ect) and the Terminal Server will allow remote access to a Windows like desktop with applications ect.

Is this something for both the staff and students or just the one?

Just for some select staff, the vpn will allow us into the LA, then they will forward this to our ts server? I would like the staff to be able to get network drives sims.net applications?

    Thanks

    Okay,

in that case it probably needs to be it's own box. you definitely don't want it on a DC.

Have a look at this doc: Installing and Configuring Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services) on Windows Server 2008*R2 « Aaron Walrath – Another IT Guy's Meanderings

The install process is fairly straightforward - but you want to have a plan of who needs access, what they need access to, and how you will licence any applications they need - not all apps cover terminal services use.
