    Backup Script with Machine Name

Does anyone have a working backup script that can be used to create a folder on the server based on machine name (if it doent already exist) and backup selected folders there, its for some netbooks that are off the domain but we would still like to backup the local documents to a network share periodically.

    Thanks

install a linux box and install BackupPC. it will do what you want from a web front end.

    HTML Code:
    ROBOCOPY %USERPROFILE% $BACKUPLOCATION$\%COMPUTERNAME% /MIR /XD dirs %USERPROFILE%\AppData "%USERPROFILE%\Application Data" "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings" /XJD /R:0 /W:0
Just change $BACKUPLOCATION$ to your remote share that will hold the backup. Will then mirror the users profile minus the app data etc.

Thanks not sure If im doing some wrong though if I edit the script as below:

    ROBOCOPY %USERPROFILE% \\server\Public\%COMPUTERNAME% /MIR /XD dirs %USERPROFILE%\AppData "%USERPROFILE%\Application Data" "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings" /XJD /R:0 /W:0

Then its coming with errors, is because Im running it on XP and not a 7 machine maybe?

ifts its xp you need to download robocopy iirc its part of the 2003 serer admin junk but im sure if you google it you will find then just copy to c:\windows you may even be able to pinch the exe file from a win7 pc
