I know very little about DNS, well i but i have question.
If i have a workstation XPPro called computer01 i check the DNS record and its in there. When i rename the PC to PC01 then i get the PC01 record in there as well as the computer01 record?
How should this work, i now have 2 DNS records with the same IP address but with the two different computer names.
Should DNS know this and update itself?
Should it be left to me to manually delete the old record/ Surely not?
Can you manually delete the records?
Howe can i stop this happening?
What is the correct way to deal with this?

You will need to setup DNS Scavenging on your DNS server which is disabled by default.
Take a look at http://technet2.microsoft.com/window....mspx?mfr=true to tell you how to do it.
And take a look at
http://technet2.microsoft.com/window....mspx?mfr=true
And
http://technet2.microsoft.com/window....mspx?mfr=true
to give you an idea why you should do it.
