Are there any open source/free mail clients that can sit in the task tray and will pop up a message or flash or something when it detects an email has been received? I know Outlook can do this to an extent, but are there any open source ones I could use too?

Basically its just for our helpdesk software. It will send out an email notification when a new task is created. So I've set up a free internal mail server, and just need an email client that will check that server all day and let me know, so nothing external really no :?

is that by default or one of the extensions? i was looking at tbird but v1 didn't have much mentioned on pop up.
can tbird be minimized to the sys tray or does it have to be left open on the taskbar?

**EDIT**

We have one or zero here.
It sends out the email, tbird is open in the tray, and i can sit there for 10mins, i then go into it, click get mail and it finds a message. i dunno why its not picking up new mail. its weird

Sylpheed is much overlooked but very very nifty... New mail notification in the tray works for me

the only real thing i need is for it to be able to be minimised to system tray and notify me of new mail, rather than me having to open the program, or have it open on the taskbar where it could be accidentally closed.
apart from that, features aren't an issue

Just downloaded it from the first url and I have the zip file, looks like you cant get it from the home page although it has the persons email address on the home page. Not sure how helpful that is to you though.
