We only have one or two left, but we do still have some paralell printers plugged into 3 port print servers.
Before on our print server, when creating the port, you could add the port number after the IP address eg 172.16.1.212_1 and it would add the IP_ prefix like normal, making it IP_172.16.1.212_1
Now, on our new server, it doesnt. It just leaves the port name as 172.16.1.212_1, which I dont think will work.
When you add the port (without the _1), it detects the print server is multi port and asks which port you want to use. But obviously I can only add a port once. So how do I tell the server that the second printer is on the second port?
I assume the change is either since SP2 or R2
The way this works under the hood is the server detects the print server type via SNMP. So double check that SNMP is working correctly on the print server.
It also might be worth checking if the print server supports LPR. As you can specify the queues manually then.
Yeah SNMP is working OK
Ive solved it now - I was just being an idiot
All I had to do was make 2 ports with the same IP, but change the name from the default. Then I could choose parallel port 1 or 2 when asked
