just had conversation with our lea guy they have decided to help us set up wus server on our admin network...
you may think that is easy but way the n/w has been designed means it not an easy task...
idea is we are going to have our own wus server and once lea sort out doing upstream server at there end will move over...

Re: wus servers our lea have seen the light
Eek, I had the exact same convo with a guy @ our LEA in the week and his words were "No we don't support you setting that up so if you break it, You fix it haha" I was not a happy bunny. Much like you the Russ the way our Admin network is setup its a pain in the a$$ to get working.

sounds good russ - til they start charging you for their time [winks @ mark]. Our lea only covers certain provisions and we have to pay for the rest - for a new topic maybe?
I'm having difficulty getting critical updates at the moment - psf ending but the log entry on the firewall is so long it gets cut off, so it doesnt tell me what type/MIME or whatever its called [i.e. application/x-pdf ,etc] it is for me to allow the type in the firewall content settings
Anyone know what it is?
Manually doing windows update shows the log and i guess its why WSUS isnt working properly at the moment
Cheers

Russell,
We used to have SUS and have recently migrated to WUS on the admin network and its working fine! - didn't need to consult LEA, they are happy with it.
I like the reporting function on WUS and a bit more flexibility than SUS.

Russ,
You're with EMBC? - get a public IP address as usual and then in ISA port forward it to the admin network? is your ISA sitting between the two networks only or is it sitting between the EMBC router and the rest of your nrtworks?

Doh! I should have read the few messages than the last one. Russ if you admin network on a seperate vlan?.
Our admin network was setup by LEA as well and we didn't have any problems using the SUS server at the time and we were using EMBC as the broadband provider.
We setup a PC with Server 2000 or 2003 server and just installed the SUS/WSUS on and followed the adm template guide basically tells you how to use the sus/wsus adn template on AD. We editied a main GPO and imported the adm template which basically allows you to set the options like the location of sus server, when to do the updates, and also if PCs reboots automatically or not after the update has been deployed/installed.
For more info check out www.susserver.com or www.wsus.info
Hope this helps.
Ashok.
