I'm 47 going on 48 - do I look like someone who would go out tooled up? I hope not. I've never had a problem with it in public - it's always on my belt. I got searched during the 26th March TUC March in London this year and the police weren't bothered by it.

With regards to windows 7 and boot up discs to use with regards to data recovery, bart pe states it does not support win 7 unless they have changed that recently as have not checked for a while, linux live discs although can read ntfs , do not do so fully so may end up corrupting the file system and hence losing data etc so that is an at your own risk kinda deal.

Does anyone know any boot disc that you can use to safely recover data that is supported, is there a link to a Win PE disc iso image that you can burn that does multiple things ie test hdd, ram , partitions etc etc

Check out SARDU - multiboot usb creator.

Also the sysinternals suite, and nirsoft utilities.

    I'd say:
USB drive, Belkin screwdriver set, and a pen and paper to note everything down you are told.

Once settled, start taking note of printers, scanners etc and download drivers when quiet times appear.

Great topic - is it worth adding the list to the Edugeek Wiki?

Yep - from around v11(?) it's been legit software only, though there are (of course) non-official versions that load back in all the warez.

    Not really.

Couldn't you do something with this: Zalman HDD enclosure with ISO mount capability? Can't believe no-one has suggested this baby yet - it's great!

+1 to that - IDK what either of those are either.

I normally use bart pe with xp but don't think bart pe supports win 7 hence my earlier question, I do know about linux live discs but again not fully supported and can corrupt FS on the HDD

This guy is good and shows it well. you need Technet or msdn subscription to get it or you can google it and find it unofficial ways.
