    decommisioning a domain controller

    Hi guys

    A bit of background:

I am running 2 domain controllers, nameley DC1 & DC2. I am having a few probs with the RAID array in DC2 and the controller is going to be replaced under warranty.

Whilst I'm at it I might as well reconfigure the disks(the guy before me has a rediculously huge system partition and not much for file storage) but this will obv mean killing the DC

Anyway - long story short. As far as I can tell DC1 is a PDC emulator, RID, GC, schema master, and Primary DNS server. DC2 holds the infrastructure roles. Is there anyway I can confirm this?

What I want to do is decomission DC2 temporarily while I rebuild the OS and the reinstate it once it's all sorted. How can I transfer the roles from DC2 onto DC1 and remove it from AD?

    Thanx!

Go to AD users and computers and righ click the top level object with the domain name. You will find what you want under there somewhere.

DCPROMO should do it for you when you demote it reeally (assuming that the flaky RAID controller is still operational enough to allow the system to run).

    Have a look at http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true

Should tell you everything you need to know.
