Certain hotfixes have been repackaged to replace earlier versions that are incompatible with Windows Server 2003 SP2. To install Windows Server 2003 SP2, you must first remove the earlier version of each affected hotfix, install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, and then install the repackaged version of each affected hotfix.

Wow, Microsoft know how to make the deployment of a service pack nice and easy don't they? Minimising downtime and all that sorta thing...

Hell yes. We haven't got anything else to do with our time- so when MS give us some nice shiny SP to install what more could we want than to uninstall the hotfixes *they* gave us in the first place and *reinstall* these after SP2 is installed with newer *compatible* ones.
Yummy.

If you look at the quoted KB article you'll see that many of these are not generally available - you have to get them specially from MS because they are not fully tested etc. Just looking quickly, there seem to be some pretty obscure problems so I'd guess that not a lot of people will be affected.
Having said that, however, it does seem weird that if MS can document the problem they can't build in a "is Hotfix X installed? Yes - remove it" process before SP2 installs.
We've only done 1 server so far but it was straightforward. Now I've just got about another 30 to do ...

Uh huh.. I've run that VBS BlockList script from [whatever KB it is] a few times and it has yet to find any of them.
