Thank you so much for quick response. It is awesome. Today I have some time after regular work hours so I went to school multimedia lab and installed usbdlm under domain administrator credential. After that I log off and log in as limited domain user and started plugging in kingston drive which has never been on the computer. To my dismay, windows immediately prompt me with user name and password to elevate the credential. I cancel the dialog box hoping that usbdlm would still kick in. But it didn't help me. I check under services.msc to make sure usbdlm service is active and running. So, I unplug the kingston usb drive and plug in different brand which also has never been used on the computer under limited user account. Windows again prompt me for user name and password. So, I canceled the prompt unplug the device and plug in the different brand and the same prompt come up again. So, I don't know sdbdlm is not working or I did something wrong. Any help or suggestion would greatly appreciated. This usb devices challenge has been bothering me for a year now with no work around.

ok, i did it.
with a sample reg file from Uwe Sieber, a GUID from http://www.guidgen.com/
a copy of ORCA and this page http://www.spinnersoftware.com/kb/en/msi/createmsi.html .
i managed to hack the .msi to populate the registry.
i have not included all the options avaliable in the ini file as i dont feel i need them all.
to edit the msi to add further options ,
open USBDLM_with_reg.msi with orca find the registry section and add as appropriate.
This download link is broken, is there any chance of anyone uploading it again please as I'm trying to deploy this via GPO and to have the ini settings in the MSI would be very handy.
I have orca and am comfortable with editing tables inside MSIs so alternatively could someone just let me know what keys I'd need to add to what table?
Thanks in advance.
Presumably nobody has this to hand then? Currently I'm deploying the ini file with a script at startup, but I'd much rather do it with GPO.
Here you go USBDLM msi file
Thanks, but I think I already have that one, straight from the website yes? It was specifically the one with the registry hacked that I was after.
Andi - maybe if you say what ini settings you want going into the MSI (as we all like it setup differently) then someone will be kind enough to butcher the MSI with orca and do it for you![]()
OK thanks.
My ini file is as simple as:
[DriveLetters]
Letter1=U
Letter2=V
I have Orca installed and am happy to butcher the msi myself, I was just wondering where to make the first cut
Any help would be gratefully received.
All,
this is the file i edited with orca.
it works fine under GPO.
you may wish to edit the drive letters to match your networks unmapped drives.

Excellent, thanks.
Sorry to bump such an old thread up, but does anyone have a spare copy of the script to run the msi, please?!?
