Please note that SP2 installs WDS by default and breaks RIS. If you are running RIS do NOT deploy SP2 to these servers just yet until you are familier with WDS. There is more info an a fix (which didn't work for me) here. Nothing on TechNet yet.

The almighty Dos_Box has too many more important matters on his mind to check for typos!

It did a peculiar thing to my DHCP as well where it seemed to awake dormant setting from when I was using boot images for thin client tests ages ago. I ahd to go in and disable those options properly.

We had this problem the first day SP2 was installed. I found a fix on the net, (will dig it out later)
Can't get to your article DOS as our LEA has banned it... lol

It has been well documented that SP2 automatically replaces RIS with WDS, all you need to do is activate WDS on your box and away you go (on a very simple level!) Going to take the plunge tomorrow once my RIS box has finished backing up.

How would that help? A grammar checker wouldn't know about Microsoft's service pack release schedule.

Erm... Going to go out on a limb here and ask "where" this "well documented" upgrade is erm... "well documented"... If I hadn't heard about it on here I'd be finding out the hard way after applying it and breaking stuff.. :?

Erm... SP2/WDS fubar's RIS when first installed
What you also need (and aren't told about before hand) are:
WAIK (At 1GB!!)
BDD 2007
Vista Install DVD
Google
Patience! (Plenty of it!!!)
It took me ages to find out how to get the PXE client working, in the end i found that you need the boot.wim file from a Vista DVD - that at least got Legacy RIS working
Then took me ages to realise that you need BDD to create a Boot image to install Vanilla Windows XP!!
Still working out the right way to create (Capture) a new Image from a machine (know it involves Sysprep)
Overall though, I'm rather impressed with WDS ...

Cheers - only porblem with WDS at moment is in converting someof my legacy images fails with an error stating that an "error has occured" error and a error number of 80360051 - again nothing on the 'net or docs to imply what the error is that has occured :|

I just ran the RIS validation check which then upgraded and activated the WDS stuff - the service start failed but after a manual restart of the Remote Installation Service all was well - it's only in legacy mode but that is all I need for now.

if you mean after you press f12 you no longer get the blue logon screen...
you have to change the boot images section in wds
in the x86 section i changed mine to boot from remoteinstall\oschooser\i386\startrom.com
but you play around and choose the other ones and they will get rid of the press f12 part after the workstation has been given and ip address
cheers

I should have been more acurate with that statement, I appologise, but if you have read anything in advance on SP2 you would have seen that for a long while they have been saying that RIS is discontinued and WDS will take over from it and SP2 will auto upgrade your RIS install to WDS etc. I saw that at least 6 months ago on the MS website, but if you don't read up loads on these things before they happen and just put it on you will get the problem, although it is listed in the top 10 reasons to put SP2 on your box.
