Classroom Screen & Application Sharing/Controling
We currently have some software called Imperata by Divace Solutions that allows us to:
View all pcs in a class as thumbnails simultaneously or as a screen scanner (10secs per screen) cycling through all pcs
Remotely view one pc at a time with the option of taking control or colaberating with the student
Share your own screen to all pcs in demo mode (from tutors machine)
Share another students pc with everyone else in demo mode
Shut down, log off, restart a selection of pcs simultaneously.
Lock screens/keyboards/mice.
Share/force open documents.
All this can be done by selection of any number of pcs.
Is there any free software that does some or all of this (im already aware of vnc variants)?
What pay alternatives are there (not sure of the capabilities of netsupport)?

NetSupport Manager and NetSupport School. Absoloutley and positively the best, and no stupid licensing restrictions for management consoles like others which are mentioned. Also if you buy NetSupport Manager you get NetSupport School free as part of the licencing.
http://www.netsupport-inc.com/
Regardless of what other people have ended up with this IS the best one.

Re: Classroom Screen & Application Sharing/Controling
NetOP here - very flaky
Does a lot of good stuff - when it does it.
What kind of cost is involved in NSM Chris (or others
)?
Andy.

With NetOp you must license every 'command' installation. With NetSupport Manager you do not. Every classroom can have a 'command' pc for the teacher with no extra licencing costs. You also do not have to buy a license for every PC. If you have 400 computers within your school you can buy just 300 licenses because you proberbly won't connect to 400 pc's.
NetSupport also has inventory functionality, scripting, and all of the other bells and whistles that the other should have but don't. Oh yeah, and you can have Mac and Linux clients too.

Re: Classroom Screen & Application Sharing/Controling
Im confused over the licencing for netsupport manager :/
Also cant find anywhere that suggests you get netsupport school free when you buy manager.
What we have and need is:
215~ workstations total:
4x 30 ict suites, each with their own tutor machine (31) which will need to be able to manage each of their 30 student pcs
3x admin workstations (us!) that will need to remotely connect/manage all workstations
Maybe need the client(?) on all staff laptops for us to help manage them also, so thats another 150~.

The licensing is simple. You pay one licence cost (per licence obviously) for NetSupport Manager. This covers you for all configurations, wether it be a client (pupils workstation), NetSupport School (a teachers PC to control the classroom) or NetSupport Manager (for you to control and administer the network). You can just buy NetSupport School should you wish, but it does not have all of the bells and whisles you need. Contact them through here.

And get hold of the demo. You'll love it.

@Frazer: They don't advertise that you get the School component free but you do.
Speak to them directly as you will get way better pricing - also the maintenance is worth taking out since they tend to have a couple of major releases each year!

AB Tutor Control is highly rated here too - pay per control PC = £150 for one or £100 each for 3 or more IIRC.
We have 300 PCs - how much would NetSupport cost us anyone??

Just spoke to live support at NetSupport:
[mark]: Hi - I want to know how much it would cost to install NetSupport School across our site of 300 PCs (approx)
[Jason Thickpenny ]: Hi Mark - what company are you from?
[mark]: <Some High School> in <Wales>
[mark]: Also - i'm told if we buy NetSupposrt Manager - NS School is free??
[Jason Thickpenny ]: That is correct- would you like a price on both?
[mark]:yes lease
[mark]: *p
[Jason Thickpenny ]: The RRP price for NetSupport Manager for 300 users is 8,235 for the software (one of cost) and 1,647 for the on-going maintenance (renewable annually)
[Jason Thickpenny ]: NetSupport School is 5,352 for the software (one off cost) and 1,070.40 for the maintenance.
[Jason Thickpenny ]: We will put all this information in an offical quote to you.
[mark]: thanks very much

So NSSchool is 10 times the cost of AB Tutor (presently) PLUS annual maintenance, and MSManager 15 times.
No contest then...

We were using Imperata but found it slow and annoying so have now purchased 5 licenses for AB Tutor control and find it great. There are a few glitches which I have been told about but haven't had time to look at yet but for £100 a license you can't complain.
