Essentially, regardless of what we try, the bloody integrated NIC isn't recognised on this thinkcentre. We know there are issues with some of the Intel drivers and have tried nearly all of the suggested workarounds without any luck.
The same nic on another integrated board works fine, it appears to be just this particular model.

Trying different versions of the same driver (some are reported to work with RIS, some not). According to Google certain Pro100 nics don't play nicely with RIS, others have .inf files that it chokes on. Tried the driverpacks.net archives as well.
Created bootdisk(s) with different drivers.
Removing the .pnfs and getting RIS to recreate the relevant .pnfs

Updated the BIOS.
Server is 2003 SP1, Clients are XP SP2.

only just seen your post I had the same problem and I have the drivers here that work with the intel pro100VE if you pm me your email I will send you a copy.
It took me months to find a set of drivers that worked with onboard intel pro 100 VE that worked with RIS
