every 6 months i do a windows search on the students work areas finding all *.gif and *.jpg
images.
Is there a better way to sift though 30,000 images for porn.
i have terrible RSI from the scrolling!!!

Visionsoft: www.visionsoft.com do a program called pixi.

Its rather expensive though, it may help you. I tried it [ it came with our PatchIT licence ] It worked but did not find much - [ on our network ]
I am finding visionsoft's support rather rubbish at the moment + their latest version of PatchIT really is buggy.
I generally use Agent Ransack:

For searches and I delete the stuff from what it finds...

There's a bit of free software called "snapmatcher" which will tell you which images are dupes...
I've never found any of the image analysers worth a curse for "porn detection" though. Looking for numerals in the filename is always a good start, and random sampling within directories might help - if one student has a porn image, then they're more likely to have another - so if one image is found, check the rest.

We have used snitch from hyperdyne in the past all though they changed it so you had to spend more money on the server version recently.
Ben
i use picasa,
get it to scan the student area's, it will pick up all the images, then you just have to flick through them, its much better at scrolling through the pictures than windows search.
