as at the school im at im looking to install win7 pcs im looking at getting rid of mandatory profiles (im not sure windows enabler actually works that well and im not sysprepping a pc everytime i want to change a profile). I know i can use the user policys to assign redirected start/docs etc the main stuff i need in my mandatory profiles and use gpp to fire out registry settings or at worst batch files that alter hkcu at logon. Now can i use a wmi filter to apply to effectively have to user gpos one that applys to users on a win7 box one that applys to users on an xp box, can i then further alter the wmi so that the win7 user policy on laptops is different so when a teacher logs into a suite pc they get a standard desktop/start menu etc like they would with a mandatory profile but if they log into a laptop they get their roaming profile with say a local start menu and a desktop full of their junk not mine?

looked into loopback but as thats per machine i cant get teachers and student to have different settings and user filtering seems to have the effect of disabling the policy
