    Administer SQL 2008 - confused...

    Can I use:
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Management Studio Express to do the following:

Connect to your SIMS2008 instance either using Windows Authentication or SQL Authentication with SA as the username and the correct password.

    3. Navigate to Security -> Logins. Add the new windows account to the list as follows:

    a. Right-click Logins and choose New Login

    b. Search for and resolve the correct windows username that you require. You may need to change the location to your domain or the local computer depending on where the account resides.

    c. Ensure “Windows Authentication” is selected and all settings can be left as default.

    d. Under “Select a page” choose “Server Roles”

    e. Ensure “public” and “sysadmin” are selected

    f. Press OK to confirm your changes

    Well, yes.

Assuming you've got mixed mode authentication on and have an actual administrator account already available. If not there's a workaround to get into the system, but it's a little more work.
